How Happyly works offline
Log feeds, sleeps, diapers, and meds at 3am with no signal. Your data saves automatically to your phone and syncs the moment you reconnect.
Short version. Tap to log feeds, sleeps, diapers, pumps, and medications in airplane mode. Open Happyly at 3am with no signal. Whatever you log automatically stays safe on your phone and quietly syncs the moment you're back online. No setup needed.
What works offline.
- Logging events: sleep, feed (left/right/bottle), pump (left/right), diaper change, medication, plus the scenarios you tag (teething, sick, daycare, swaddled).
- Logging medication doses through the dedicated Medications page (the offline queue covers both the quick-log and the deep dose form).
- Editing or deleting an event you logged offline.
- Viewing your recent activity (the last 7 days of the tracker — 14 days when Anywhere Mode is on).
- Viewing your last-known Insights, growth, medication, and vaccine cards. The age of the data is shown so you know what you're looking at.
- Generating a Doctor visit summary from the per-child page — a single-page printable rollup of the last 7 days. Works on the plane to the appointment.
- Running timers (Fell Asleep / Woke Up, Feed, Pump) — they survive even a force-quit or phone restart, because the start time is saved to your phone the moment you tap.
What doesn't work offline.
- New AI coaching replies in Chat (the AI coach needs a connection to think).
- Fresh AI insights generation (we wait until you're back online so the analysis uses your most recent data).
- Co-parent realtime sync (your partner's offline-logged entries arrive once both phones reconnect).
What you'll see.
- A small banner at the top of the screen when you're offline or when entries are syncing. Tap it to open Data on this device — a Spotify-Downloaded-style view of exactly what's saved on your phone.
- A little sync icon on each event card that's waiting to sync. The icon disappears once that entry lands on Happyly's servers.
- An amber sync-problem icon if an entry failed to sync. Tap the banner to see what happened and discard if needed.
- A small "may be out of date" note on the medication last-dose reminder when you're offline, so you don't double-dose based on a stale cache.
- A soft check-in if a feed or pump timer has been running for more than 12 hours — three options: Stop now, Keep running, Discard. Sleep timers don't trigger this (overnight sleep is fine).
Where to see your queued entries.
Tap the offline banner at the top of the screen. Data on this device shows: how many entries are saved on this phone, when the last successful sync happened, and any entries that hit a snag. You can discard a stuck entry from there.
Doctor visit summary.
From My Family → \[child's page\], tap Doctor visit summary for a clean one-page printout of the last 7 days — feeds, sleep, diapers, growth, medication doses, recent vaccines. Works fully offline once you've opened those pages once on this phone. Tap Print and your phone's print dialog handles the rest (most phones can save it as a PDF too).
Anywhere Mode (Premium).
For longer stretches with patchy signal — hospital stays, long flights, road trips, weekends at grandma's — turn on Anywhere Mode from My Account → Preferences. It widens Happyly's safety net so you're covered for longer offline windows. The app behaves normally when wifi works; the extra safety net kicks in only when you need it. A small pill at the top of the screen confirms the mode is on and is one tap to switch off.
Soft suggestions: If Happyly knows your due date, it offers Anywhere Mode in the third trimester so the hospital bag is mentally packed. After Anywhere Mode has been on for a week, Happyly checks back in to see if you'd like to switch off — useful when you're back on home wifi after a long stay. Both prompts are always soft offers, never auto-enabled.
Multi-device and your partner.
Offline entries on one phone reach your partner's phone the moment both devices are online again. There's no manual sync step. If you and your partner each logged something while offline, both entries land — Happyly never silently drops one.
After a long offline stretch (more than two hours), Happyly shows a soft "while you were away" recap of what your partner logged so you can catch up at a glance.
Troubleshooting.
An entry shows as failed. Tap the offline banner, find the entry in Needs attention, and tap Discard. Re-log it if you still want it on record.
An entry hasn't appeared on my partner's phone. They need to be online for it to arrive. If both phones are online and it's still missing after a minute, force-close and reopen Happyly on both — that triggers a fresh sync.
Battery and data. Offline mode is free of background syncing. Happyly only syncs when the app is foregrounded and online.
Privacy.
What's stored on your phone: queued entries, last-known recent activity, last-known Insights snapshot, your running-timer state, and (for Anywhere Mode) a slightly larger window of cached pages. Nothing else. Everything is scoped to your account on this device — signing out clears the cache. Voice audio is never stored anywhere (transcribed in real time, then gone).
