Happyly — Frequently Asked Questions Happyly baby and toddler sleep coaching app
Last updated: April 2026
Short, honest answers to the questions parents ask most often about Happyly, a baby and toddler sleep coaching app. If your question is not here, reach out via the contact form and we will add it.
What is Happyly?
Happyly is a baby and toddler sleep coaching app. Share what is going on with your child, get personalized advice grounded in peer-reviewed pediatric sleep research, track naps and nights with a shareable activity log, and see your baby's next sleep window with Gentle Rhythm — Happyly's adaptive prediction that learns your child's patterns. Happyly is in private beta and free to join.
Who is Happyly for?
Happyly is for parents and caregivers of babies and toddlers from newborn through about 24 months. Whether you are a first-time parent, sharing care with a partner, or a grandparent raising a grandchild, Happyly's sleep coach adapts to your family and your situation. Same-sex couples, single parents, blended families, and chosen family are all welcome here.
Is Happyly free?
Yes — Happyly is free during the private beta, and our No Takeaways commitment means whatever lives in the free tier today will stay free for you tomorrow. Paid Plus and Family tiers will later add extras like unlimited coaching messages and priority responses, but the free experience is a full sleep coaching experience, not a trial. You can see the full pricing breakdown on the home page.
How is Happyly different from Huckleberry?
Huckleberry is primarily a sleep tracker with an algorithmic nap-prediction feature; Happyly is a conversational sleep coach that also happens to track. Happyly's sleep coach reads your situation in plain language, adapts when the day does not go to plan, and lets you share selectively with your village — grandparents, sitters, partners — using fifteen granular per-guest permissions. Both apps have their place; Happyly is the right fit if you want something that talks back.
How is Happyly different from Happy Baby and other baby sleep apps?
Happyly (spelled with a 'y') is a baby and toddler sleep coaching app built around conversational guidance — not to be confused with Happy Baby by Aumio, which is a different product focused on bedtime sounds and meditations. Happyly creates research-backed plans that bend when life throws curveballs, and keeps your private coaching chat separate from anything you share with caregivers.
What is Gentle Rhythm?
Gentle Rhythm is Happyly's adaptive sleep guidance system. Instead of a rigid schedule, it shows you your baby's next sleep window as a soft time range — always paired with 'watch for sleepy cues.' It starts with age-based guidance from day one and gets more personal as you track. Gentle Rhythm is designed to reduce anxiety, not increase it — no countdown timers, no 'missed window' warnings, just gentle guidance that bends when life bends.
Can I track more than one child?
Yes — Happyly supports multiple children in a single account. Each child gets their own tracker, their own rhythm guide, and their own personalized coaching. Twins, siblings, and multiples are all supported. You can switch between children with a single tap. Multi-child tracking is available on the Family plan.
How is Happyly different from a countdown timer app?
Countdown timer apps tell you 'nap in 47 minutes' — precision that creates anxiety when babies inevitably don't cooperate. Happyly shows you a 30-minute window ('nap opens around 1:30–2:00 PM') paired with 'watch for sleepy cues.' Happyly's guidance adapts in real time — if your baby is teething or had a rough night, the next window adjusts automatically. The goal is to help you read your baby, not watch a clock.
Does Happyly use 'cry it out'?
No — Happyly does not require any 'crying it out.' Happyly's approach is gentle, responsive, and parent-led, drawing on graduated settling techniques that peer-reviewed research shows are effective without adverse effects on attachment or infant cortisol levels. You stay in control of how much independent settling you want to try, and Happyly's sleep coach adapts around your comfort level.
Can I chat with my co-parent or caregiver inside Happyly?
Yes — on the Plus plan. Family Chats live right inside the app, tied to the moments you're already logging. Start a family-wide chat, a one-on-one with a co-parent or grandma, or a small group with the sitter — share text, photos, voice notes, threaded replies, and reactions. Push notifications for new messages and hand-offs are on by default (they're messages from people, not nags from the app), and you can mute any of it in Account → Notifications. Hand-off is still free on every plan; chat is the depth layer.
How do I turn message notifications on or off?
Open Account → Notifications. The first time you open Family Chats on a device we'll ask the browser or phone for permission; after that, you can flip Chats and Hand-offs on or off independently, set quiet hours (defaults to 10pm–7am local), hide message previews on shared devices, or send a test push to confirm it's working. Hand-off notifications ignore quiet hours by default because they're time-sensitive — there's a toggle to apply quiet hours to those too if you'd rather.
What's different about Happyly's coach?
Five things, all small at first glance, all important at 2am.
- The coach picks up where you left off. Last night's feed, today's nap, this week's pattern — already in the conversation. You never re-explain your baby.
- The rhythm reshapes when your day does. Lunch ran late and nap got pushed? The next window adjusts itself. No re-prompting.
- The coach knows when not to answer. Doses, fevers, anything medical — we point you to your pediatrician, on purpose. No half-right number at 3am.
- The freezer stays honest. Bag-by-bag stash with a Fix menu for when life happens — runway in days, not ounces.
- Your partner knows you fed her at 3am. Quietly, with no scoreboard.
A generic chatbot starts every conversation cold. Happyly's coach already knows your child, picks up where you left off, and stays in your tone. That's the difference.
Is my data private? Who can see my chat?
Your chat with Happyly's sleep coach is private to you by default — guests you invite can only see the specific permissions you grant them. Happyly never sells your data and never shares it with advertisers; we use industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit. Full details are on our Privacy Policy.
How does Happyly's coaching work?
Tell Happyly about your child — age, sleep habits, what is going well, what is not — and Happyly's sleep coach builds you a personalized rhythm guide grounded in pediatric sleep research. Log events by chat or tracker, and the guidance updates based on what actually happened today. Gentle Rhythm shows your baby's next sleep window at a glance, and the whole system pulls from the same peer-reviewed work a human sleep consultant would reference; you can explore the studies behind it on our research page.
Does Happyly use AI?
Happyly is built from many technical components that together make up its deep baby sleep coaching intelligence. Part of that intelligence uses artificial intelligence — to keep our guidance aligned with current research, to personalize recommendations to your specific child, and to keep the whole experience smooth and automated. But AI is a means, not the product. The product is a sleep coach that listens to your baby, understands your family, and gives you plain-language guidance you can actually use at 2 AM. That coaching is grounded in the same peer-reviewed pediatric sleep research a human sleep consultant would reference — you can see it on our research page.
Can I talk to Happyly with my voice?
Yes. Push-to-talk dictation is built in for free — hold the mic, say what happened, and Happyly drops the transcript in the chat for you to review and send. Talk Mode (Family plan post-beta) lets you have a hands-free back-and-forth — useful when you're feeding, pumping, walking the stroller, or up at 3am — and the same voice can run the app for you ("log a 30-minute nap from 10am and invite my mom"). Whisper mode dims the screen and softens the voice so you can talk without waking the baby. Your daily rhythm guide (Plus plan post-beta) can also be read aloud via the Listen Card with a choice of five voices.
What's on the Insights dashboard?
When you log in each morning, Happyly's Insights dashboard greets you with a warm Coach Summary refreshed every few hours, today's rhythm timeline showing your baby's day at a glance, the next sleep window prediction, sleep trends over the week, a consistency tracker, weekly recap, and milestone celebrations woven through. After about a week of tracking, a Natural Rhythm card surfaces the patterns Happyly has learned about your baby specifically. Everything is written warm — never clinical. No red. No "below average." If sleep dips for a few days, a soft nudge appears gently — never as alarm.
Can I track growth and milestones too?
Yes — Happyly tracks WHO growth percentiles for weight, length, and head circumference, with a Visit Prep card you can hand your pediatrician before the next well-child visit. Percentiles are shown in neutral gray; we coach, we don't score. Milestones are a separate keepsake log — first smiles, first words, first steps — with photos and age-tuned ideas to nudge what's next, written so nothing ever feels overdue. Both are printable for the baby book.
What ages does Happyly support?
Happyly currently supports newborn through about 24 months, covering the stages where pediatric sleep research is most developed: circadian rhythm emergence, wake window changes, nap transitions, and the classic sleep regressions around 4, 8 to 10, 12, and 18 months. Our baby wake windows by age guide walks through each stage. We are thinking about older ages, but toddlerhood through age two is where Happyly's sleep coach lives today.
Does Happyly work for twins or multiples?
Yes — Happyly works for twins and higher multiples. Each child gets their own tracker and personalized plan, so Happyly's sleep coach can account for the reality that multiples rarely follow identical schedules. You can log and view each child separately or side by side.
Can I use Happyly on my phone? Is there an Android or iOS app?
Happyly is a web app that works on any phone, tablet, or computer — no install required — and runs in your mobile browser like a full app. A dedicated iOS and Android wrapper around the same sleep coaching experience is in active development; beta testers will be the first to try it when it ships.
How do I join the beta?
Request beta access from the home page, answer a few quick questions about your family and what you are hoping Happyly can help with, and we will get back to you as quickly as we can. Happyly is free during the private beta — no credit card, no trial clock, no pressure.
When will Happyly be publicly available?
Happyly is in active private beta while we refine the sleep coaching experience with real parents' feedback. A public launch date will be announced once we are confident every core coaching flow is rock solid; requesting beta access is the fastest way to try Happyly today and hear about the public launch first.
Is Happyly a medical service?
No — Happyly is a sleep coaching app that also chats helpfully about feeding, growth, and common parenting symptom questions in a knowledgeable-friend style. We're not a medical service: we don't replace your pediatrician's advice, we don't prescribe or recommend medication doses, and we route urgent concerns straight to professionals. See our full Health Disclaimer.
What sleep training philosophy does Happyly follow?
Happyly's approach aligns with the tradition of Marc Weissbluth's Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child — consistent routines, age-appropriate wake windows, and gentle graduated settling — paired with research from Jodi Mindell at CHOP, Avi Sadeh's actigraphy work, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Happyly's sleep coach adapts the plan to your parenting philosophy, not the other way around, and never prescribes extinction-style 'cry it out.'
Can I use Happyly while breastfeeding or formula feeding?
Yes — Happyly works whether you breastfeed, formula feed, combo feed, or pump. Happyly's sleep coach asks about feeding patterns because they shape sleep pressure and night wakings, but Happyly never prescribes a feeding philosophy. For feeding-specific concerns like supply, weight gain, or allergies, please check with your pediatrician or a lactation consultant — see our Health Disclaimer for more.
What if my baby has colic or reflux?
Happyly's sleep coach can help you build a calmer sleep routine if your baby has colic or reflux, but these conditions need medical evaluation first — please work with your pediatrician on the underlying cause. Once you have a treatment plan from your healthcare team, Happyly can adapt sleep recommendations around it. See our Health Disclaimer for more on medical topics.
Does Happyly replace my pediatrician?
No — Happyly is a sleep coaching app, not a replacement for your pediatrician. Think of Happyly as a knowledgeable friend who specializes in baby and toddler sleep: we can help you think through routines and interpret what your child's patterns might mean, but anything medical belongs with your healthcare team. See our Health Disclaimer.
Where do I find dosing guidance for medications?
Happyly does not give dosing advice — that's a pediatrician or pharmacist question, and we won't pretend otherwise. We do log what you gave so you don't have to remember it at 3am, and we point you to the people and references you can actually trust. See Trusted Dosing References for curated links to the AAP, NHS, manufacturer dosing pages, the British National Formulary for Children, and Poison Control. If you're worried in the moment, call Poison Control on 1-800-222-1222 (US) or NHS 111 (UK) — both free, both 24/7.
How do I cancel or delete my account?
You can delete your Happyly account and all associated data at any time from your account settings, or email hi@happyly.app and we will handle it for you within a few business days. Deleting your account removes your chat history, tracker data, and plans — we do not retain anything after a deletion request.
Still have a question?
If your question is not on this page, the Happyly team is happy to answer it directly. Drop us a note and we will get back to you — and if it is a common question, we will add it here for the next parent who asks.
